Cutters of Fine Make Diamonds and Colored Stones

Hi!
I'm Don, the owner and lapidary of Headwaters Lapidary. Lapidary is a word that means the art of cutting gem stones and the name given to the person who cuts them. It's not a very dirty job but still, someone has to do it. After all, rocks are not gems until after they've been cut and polished.

I cut the keystone shape amethyst and the other amethysts for the Miss Pennsylvania Crown

Ohio Flint Knife

I spent several hours in the flint quarry hammering out the football sized piece of Ohio flint that I used to make this knife. It is very rare to find a piece this large without any cracks and lots of color.  This knife is 7.5 inches long and made up of three pieces, the blade (full length) and two side pieces for the handle.

When this piece of Ohio flint came off the saw, I saw the image of a ghost. Others saw a bird. What ever you see I'm sure you'll agree it is hauntingly beautiful.

The base of this vase I made from two pieces of tree agate from India. The silk flowers are set into holes drilled into the hemisphere made of pink and green moss agate, also from India, which just sits into the base. It is about four inches in diameter and seven inches tall.
